With Guardians of the Galaxy crossing $700
Million at the global box office (and the Blu-ray
hitting on December 9th) it’s definitely a positive
thing that writer/director James Gunn is already
hard at work on the sequel, in fact he
commenced work on the script on the Sunday
after the film opened to larger-than-projected box
office. As a side note, back in January who
would have thought this film would have been
the biggest grosser of 2014 by a country mile?
Anyway, Gunn recently spoke about the upcoming
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and, while is
comments were of course slight (they sort of
have to be at this point) they’re interesting
enough to warrant a small mention. The
original film incidentally will have a ton of special
features when it does get that Blu-ray release in
December. Definitely picking that one up.
Gunn spoke at Variety‘s Entertainment and
Technology Summit, opening up the proceedings
with a slight misdirect:
“It’s going to be a really surprising open. What
happens is all the characters are killed in the first
10 minutes. In really horribly brutal fashion.”
He’s kidding around of course, but he confirmed
that all of the existing team members will of
course be returning but that “fans may see the
team adding new members.” As someone who
loved the movie but has not read any of the
books, does anyone have any guesses as to what
characters might join up? I imagine it’s a pretty
rich, full word with endless possibilities.
Oh and just in case you were wondering, Gunn all
but ruled out the Star Wars crossover I didn’t
even know some of you were asking about. Or
did he? Per Gunn, “‘Star Wars’ was a long time
ago. It would have to be time travel.”
