While Sony Pictures is dealing with the fallout
from the North Korean cyber-attack, a former
Sony project is barreling forward. Universal
Pictures recently picked up the Aaron Sorkin -
scripted Steve Jobs biopic from Sony, and while
the film had trouble firming up its cast, it appears
that things are finally coming together. Michael
Fassbender is set to play the Apple innovator,
Seth Rogen is onboard as Apple co-founder Steve
Wozniak, and Danny Boyle is firmly in the
director’s chair. Now, after Natalie Portman
previously flirted with the role , it appears that
Kate Winslet is now in line to join the project as
the female lead. More after the jump.
Per Variety, Kate Winslet is in early negotiations
to play the female lead in Jobs. Details regarding
the role are unclear at this time, but the movie is
structured like a play as it’s comprised of only
three major scenes set before the launch of three
big Apple products. Fassbender’s Jobs carries
the bulk of the script’s lines, but clearly other
characters play integral roles in the story, with
Jeff Daniels circling the role of former Apple
President John Scully.
Winslet would mark a major get for the project,
which almost starred her Titanic co-star Leonardo
DiCaprio. The Oscar-winning actress will next be
seen onscreen in the Divergent sequel Insurgent
and also recently completed filming director John
Hillcoat ’s crime drama Triple Nine with a cast
that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Woody Harrelson ,
and Casey Affleck.
Universal is looking to start production on Jobs
early next year, before Fassbender has to report
of the set of X-Men: Apocalypse . Fassbender,
Rogen, and Winslet starring in a Danny Boyle film
written by Aaron Sorkin? For a project that’s had
a bit of a rough road to production, it sure is
turning out quite nicely.
